This year’s senior class of 2020 stands apart from all others. This group of young adults had their senior year abruptly stopped in the months that lead up to some of the best times a student gets to experience after putting the work in for 4 years in high school. The class of 2020 did not get a prom, a senior trip, senior awards, to finish their sports, their yearbooks signed, and most importantly, to say goodbye to their friends and teachers in person. I think it’s important to remember that this group of young men and women came into this world at the time of 9/11, a significant time in history. And as they approached the tail end of their senior year, they have had to address the challenges of another historic event, the coronavirus crisis. So if there is any group that can prevail through all of this – it is this senior class. We are very proud of you and we recognize all that you have endured to get where you are today. The future can be daunting but we have faith that you will always rise to the occasion after witnessing all that you have accomplished while pursuing your music and art at PMAC. Congratulations to the Class of 2020!!

What do you study/have studied at PMAC? Guitar Private Lesson with Jim Dozet, Teen Rock Band, Summer Teen Rock Band, Summer Jazz Band
What is something you have learned through your music/art education that you have applied to your daily life? In life, much like in music, nothing is guaranteed to be easy at first. Initially, this was a tough realization for me because for the majority of my life I was good at grasping new concepts very quickly. So through playing the guitar and learning harder and harder musical techniques, I’ve gained a drive and ambition that has served me well throughout the last 5+ years and will continue to do so for the rest of my life.
Describe how you plan to continue making music and/or art moving forward. Music and the guitar will always be a part of my life. I’m excited to say that next fall (hopefully, you never know these days with the Covid-19 pandemic) I will be attending Berklee College of Music. At this point I’m undecided in what to major in, but I have narrowed it down to either performance or songwriting!

Sam W

What do you study/have studied at PMAC? Drum Set Lessons with Mike Walsh
What is something you have learned through your music/art education that you have applied to your daily life? Music and art have taught me how to take inspiration and influence and make something of your own. They’ve taught me the value of putting time and effort into things. Most of all, they’ve taught me that it’s okay to struggle with something and take longer than expected and be frustrated, because you can still get something valuable out of it in the end.
Describe how you plan to continue making music and/or art moving forward. In college I will be Majoring in Fine Arts, and potentially minoring but undoubtedly continuing in music. I hope to learn more instruments and more music and I will be sure to hold onto my love and appreciation for music and art for my entire life.
