Assistant Teaching Artist, Summer Art Camp
Description

Portsmouth Music and Arts Center seeks a visual artist and educator to teach PMAC’s summer art camp. PMAC Artists Camp is held in July, in week-long sessions for students ages 7-12. The location of this camp will be in a venue located in Portsmouth NH or Kittery ME.

Responsibilities
  • Reporting to the Director of Education, duties are as follows:
    Teach Summer Art Camp during July 6-10, July 13-17, and July 20-24, 8:30am-3:30pm (camp program runs 9am-3pm). Possible additional opportunity to teach July 27-31 as well.
  • Manage college interns and high school interns to assist with camp
  • Set up before each camp day and clean/organize art space at conclusion of day
  • Work with staff and other teachers to organize an art show at the end of each week, held 2:30-3:00pm the Friday of each camp week.
  • Friendly and professional demeanor
  • Work with the lead teaching artist to execute the camp theme and projects.
  • Follow all PMAC Safety Guidelines, including health and safety guidelines.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree preferred, or 1+ years of undergraduate study in visual art, graphic design, digital animation or art education. Experience working and teaching in a non-profit, community center, or classroom setting preferred. Candidates must have working knowledge of basic art mediums such as drawing, painting and basic multimedia. The Teaching Artist should be professional, friendly, and extremely reliable.

The Portsmouth Music and Arts Center (PMAC) is a multi-faceted arts center serving all ages and abilities. In addition to individual instruction in music and visual arts, PMAC offers ensembles, classes, summer camps, and community arts outreach programs, along with live music performances and art exhibitions by both students and professionals. PMAC addresses the need for arts education in the greater Seacoast region by providing high quality instruction that compliments the offerings in our local public and private schools.
