RECEPTION Friday, Sep 25 at 5:30 PM
Sensory Perception is an exhibition of paintings and mixed-media artworks that are the artists “feelings” of a sense of place, from the joy of working in her garden, her hiking experiences, ocean walks, and noticing the many curious and beautiful things along the way.
ARTIST BIO
Darlene was influenced by both art and nature at an early age, in part by the rural artistic community of southern Connecticut, where she was born, and the influences of NYC, an hour away. Her mother was an antique and art collector who knew many artists who would invite them to tour and watch demonstrations of their media in their studios and workspaces.
Raised by unconventional parents who were organic gardeners, built their own house, and were truly unique individuals, she was brought up to respect and revere nature during nature walks. A true product of the sixties, Darlene experimented with many lifestyle and employment choices before circuitously reuniting and reengaging with the art world.
After raising her family, Furbush Ouellett finished her BFA at the University of NH. She was awarded the Corinne Trippetti scholarship for artistic merit, and has won Best of Show(s), in regional juried exhibitions. She has curated artwork, been a juror, mentored students for portfolio presentations, worked for non-profit and for-profit organizations, teaching a variety of art forms to both youth and adults.
Darlene’s artworks have been purchased by local businesses, loyal collectors nationwide, and sold to an international business in Shanghai, China.
“I revere the natural world. I am an environmentalist and naturalist; I explore plants as a botanist might, by taking a closer and deeper look. I am always awestruck and left humbled by nature’s wisdom and creativity.”
