ARTIST

Portsmouth-based artist Drew DiPasquale’s solo exhibition is a negotiation between control and chaos. DiPasquale builds his paintings through an active process of risk, discovery, and revision. Grounded in a deep study of art history, artist collaborations, and relentless experimentation in the studio, his work connects with the raw immediacy of seeing and making, while embracing the unknown.

DiPasquale’s show invites viewers into an exchange. Like walking in on a conversation that is still unfolding, you’re invited to spend time with the work and step into its momentum.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Some idea gets me off the fence, a shape, a color, something that’s been sitting with me. Once I’m in, it’s a wrestling match. I take a risk, then respond to it. Add to it. Cover it. Push back on it if it’s not working.

The material comes from everywhere. A good day, an argument, something read, something said. I’m not interested in confessing where a painting started. I try to give it what it needs compositionally and stop worrying about the subject that got it going. The reward is in staying with it longer. That’s my job, keep it interesting enough, curious enough, that it gives something back the more someone spends time with it.
